It has been 10 years since Steve Job brought the iPhone into existence. Looking back, this line of phones has come a long way and it has changed things forever. The iPhone marked the beginning of the era of phones with no physical keyboards. A decade later we now have the iPhone X (pronounced as the iPhone ten). This phone marks the tenth anniversary of the iconic phone. The iPhone X boasts many firsts. It is the first iPhone with a bezel-less screen. It is also the first iPhone utilizing the AMOLED display technology and also the very first phone from Apple without the home button but with Face ID.
Design & Display
You will love the iPhone X 256GB when you lay your eyes on it. Well, it has the same glass back as the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus. However, the rear dual cameras have been arranged vertically and not horizontal like their predecessors. There is a glossy steel frame on the sides that looks really nice gives the phone a premium feel. The iPhone X is a beauty, although that glass back may be prone to damage if the phone is dropped on a hard surface. The front view is amazing, you will be wowed if you been using an iPhone with bezels.
The edge-to-edge screen of the iPhone Ten plays a major role in enhancing the look of this phone. iPhone’s signature home button has been removed and there is a notch on top containing the TrueDepth sensors. The sensors at the notch include the front camera and other sensors that allow you to capture your face in 3 dimensions (3D).
Introducing Face ID
To be able to create a phone with an edge-to-edge screen, Apple had no choice other than to get rid of the iconic home button. The home button was home to the iPhone’s fingerprint scanner. Apple has now introduced face-recognition tech. They call it Face ID. If you buy the iPhone X, this is what you will be using to access your phone. And since you have to access your device many times every day, day, it is important to understand how the Face ID works.
So, in addition to the earpiece, ambient light, proximity, and front camera, the trapezoidal notch also has an infrared sensor, a flood illuminator, and a dot projector. In simple terms, this technology scans the face in 3D utilizing the infrared tech and then matches it to what was captured when you set up your Face ID to unlock. It requires you to look at it with open eyes so that captures your face, eyes, nose, and ears. According to Apple, the phone uses machine learning. This basically helps Face ID to evolve over time as you age. It can also give you access to the phone when you wear a hat or sunglasses. It will also grant you access when you grow a beard. Face ID is easy to set up and it works very well too. It works even when it’s pitch dark.
Camera and performance
On the camera department, you should expect nothing other than the exemplary performance from the dual cameras at the back. Technically speaking, the iPhone X 256GB should do better than the iPhone 8 Plus, since it has optical image stabilization (OIS) on the rear cameras, a feature that is lacking from the
iPhone X is super-fast – there are no complaints here. The X 256GB can handle everything, even resource-intensive games very easily. As far as the battery life is concerned, you may need to charge the iPhone X at the evening if you are a heavy user is. You can charge the X wirelessly but you should not expect fast charging out the box.
